September 7th Grand Fondo a great success!
Meet Jamous alJamous, a fledgling Rotary Club of Whistler candidate for membership, handing out medals to the weary peddlers in the finish area before they head to the Olympic Plaza for a well-earned beer and food. Your Rotary Club of Whistler assisted the Whistler Community Band at the 2019 Grand Fondo. The band is largely made up of high school students who need financing for their equipment, transportation and various needs. Come to the Whistler Museum on September 17th At 6:00 pm and hear Jamous’ fascinating story! Tuesday AM September 10th Meeting ReportThe remainder of the meeting followed the cheque presentation: - Murray reported on the $ 4,100.00 raised at the July IronMan which consisted of three days of dedication by Rotary Club of Whistler Volunteers and Murray’s leadership as Team Captain.
- Murray then held a presentation to the club on his Duties as Assistant District Governor encompass. He also gave good coverage of all things Rotary especially the 33,000 clubs globally, 34 Zones,
- 530 Districts, the Rotary Foundation which all clubs support. The Foundation cornerstones are peace,disease, clean water, mother and child education and growing economies. Rotary Central is the area of Record for all things Rotary. We appreciated the dynamic material Murray presented.
- Brief review of upcoming events especially the Blues at Dusty’s, our signature fundraiser for the Rotary year.
- Ken Martin gave an interesting “Do you Know” for the bottle of wine from the last meeting then won the draw again! Thanks goodness he is chalk full of knowledge to pass on to us.
