Lori Pyne, Interim Director of Whistler Community Services and the Whistler Food Bank spoke to our online meeting. Lori and her team try to plan for monthly income, a larger space to meet the needs of the Whistler Food Bank following a 300% increase in use from locals, funding and equipment needs including refrigeration and transportation of donations and purchases. The Rotary Club of Whistler is looking for ways to help our community.
Perhaps this is our opportunity to plan going forward.

Jack was Back May 12th Mayor Jack Crompton, a member of the Rotary Club of Whistler updated us giving up to date plans for a soft opening of parks, trails, and restaurants. Jack acknowledged the careful management of visitors required and following the correct protocols handed down from health officials and measuring how other communities are addressing the same challenges.  Jack expects a large visitation this summer as Whistler is close to Vancouver and the Provincial Health Minister is advising "staycations" in our province and community for this coming summer.

May 19th Mitch Sulkers, retired local school teacher, founder of a popular local school program for back country hiking, skiing and ocean kayaking for youths, President of the Alpine Club of Canada for 10 years, Park Ranger, Environmentalist, Grizzly Bear/Black Bear Specialist, Trail Maker Consultant and so many more accreditations - spoke to us on the changes in wildlife patterns on our valley and high back country trails. He elaborated on how training increasing numbers hikers and campers requires a high level of supervision as does the actual making and maintaining of the trails to enable a gentle melding of humans, habitat and critters. His photos, knowledge and common sense were not so common in this presentation which held us enraptured, until Jack came back late in the meeting to update us on the re opening of Whistler. He outlined the information being used by Work Safe BC, Guidelines from Industry Canada, Federal and Provincial government recommendation distributed to municipalities to maintain our flattened curve and protect our vulnerable.
