Apologies for the lateness of our bulletins.  Our Pres, Janice Lloyd has been off recuperating (but getting much better), and our Pres Elect Gill is off getting fully Rotary indoctrinated at the President Elect Training Seminar in Seattle this weekend.

This past Tuesday (Feb 18th) we had a great presentation from Sandra Cameron for the Whistler Clinic Foundation talking about their latest fund raising initiative, $2M+ for a new and improved Trauma room, and a pitch for our club to dedicate to partner with them in their fundraising efforts (more on this to come along with pictures). Sandra was introduce by Clinic Foundation board member John Nadeau.

Assistant District Governor Murray Wood also presented Mary Scott with yet another Paul Harris pin, I think this is her 5th (cumulative personal and club credit $5000US dollar donation) . Congratulations Mary.

On Tuesday Feb 11th former Air Canada pilot David Spicer gave a very informative presentation on the Boeing Max 737 issues and specifically last year's crash of the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on March 10th, 2019.  David covered the cascading problems of inexperienced Ethiopian crew, shortcomings with Ethiopian Airlines maintenance and training procedures, FAA shortcomings resulting from a too close relationship with Boeing, and finally Boeing itself with many design and quality control issues, which continue to this day.  We learnt a lot about the way airliners are designed, certified and put into service.  David felt Boeing and the Max 737 still had a long way to go from having the worlds largest zero emission airline fleet (highlighted with images of hundreds of parked 737 Max’s).

A great turnout of 20+ Rotarians, former Rotary Club of Whistler Rotarians (Gord Leidal, John and Sheila Walker) and guests were on hand to listen to David.

On February 4th was a business/End Polio update with Murray Wood stepping in on short notice to provide a great presentation. We also were treated to a video of Bill Gates discussing his foundations continuing commitment to Rotary Internationals End Polio program. (apologies for the short description as I missed this meeting)

Upcoming Events
We will be having an informal social Tuesday, Feb 25th.  All who are interested in a dinner evening out we will be meeting at Creekbread Pizza in Creekside at 5:30. This is a change from the previously announced Roland meeting. The Rotary Interactors are holding their annual fundraiser at Creekbread, with a silent auction and a significant percentage of your pizza purchase going to support their chosen cause.

This year’s Scavenger Hunt will be on Thursday, April 2nd on Blackcomb Mountain.  Registration is now open.
