Squamish River Watershed Society Restoration and Educational Outreach Programs and Activities

"The SRWS formed in 1998 with a holistic approach towards watershed restoration.  To date our organization has assessed over 144 watercourses in the Squamish and Lillooet River watersheds and restored thousands of metres of habitat for salmon and other wildlife. In 2005 the SRWS expanded our operations to include and education outreach program that engages over 600 students annually in outdoor experiential learning.

The work the SRWS undertakes looks at the headwaters in the upper watershed all the way down to the estuary and into Howe Sound and includes scientific and state of the art methodology and monitoring programs. In the mid-1990's the SRWS worked closely with the forest industry as part of the Forest Renewal BC Watershed Restoration Program and then in the early 2000's the restoration focused more on salmon habitat and restoring estuarine function. Throughout our years of operations we have maintained strong partnerships with Squamish Nation and through this partnership have been able to restore salmon habitat in the upper Elaho River, along the Cheakamus, and throughout the traditional territory of Squamish Nation."
