Upgrading our Health Care Centre Trauma Room Project Fundraiser
Feb. 18, 2020
The WHCF is embarking on our single largest fundraising project in the past decade. The expansion and upgrading of our health care centre trauma room is our community’s highest health care priority. The WHCC recently celebrated Its 25th anniversary of providing residence and tourist emergency care services. In a town that celebrates playing outside and pushing the limits of sport we have more than our fair share of trauma related injuries. This unfortunately puts pressure on a room designed for much less tourism and population growth than we have experienced over the last two decades. Like any other community it is important to match our ability to handle the growth with the facilities needed to provide the emergency care need that will ultimately come along. Not since the multi million-dollar CT scan project have we had a project that will have as an immediate and lasting impact on our health care centres ability to provide exceptional world class care for residence and tourist of the sea to sky corridor. |

Project Amigo
Jul. 07, 2020 3:00 p.m.
Here is a short description as provided by Barry Maskell: Elly has been working on the project amigo for several years. The project fits with international, education, etc. The participants are both boys and girls all ages starting with very young all the way through University. Helping them, helps their families, and improves international relations with countries like Canada and the US. When we were on the Mini Work Week, I got no sense of insecurity sometimes associated with areas of MEX…. The 2 stoves we installed in homes helped to improve the overall living conditions of those homes. The project is supported by local Rotarians in that state…

100 Women Who Care
Jul. 28, 2020 3:00 p.m.
Our 100 Women Who Care Whistler chapter is designed to make an immediate positive impact on the lives of our neighbours by bringing together 100 (or more) women in Whistler who care about local community causes and are committed to community strength. Our meetings are one hour in length and take place four times per year; beginning with an optional beverage reception, allowing our members to mingle and network with like minded women in our community. Each meeting agenda includes three member nominated charities presenting their need for a financial donation, attending membership voting (majority wins) and a cheque presentation to the selected organization. Every member commits to donating $100 x 4 meetings per year = $40,000 per year to our local sea to sky community.
Personal Blurb:
Ashlie Girvan: happy to call Whistler home since 2006. Local business owner of Dub Tubs, with husband Jeff Girvan, and mom to three amazing little humans. Ashlie has worked in the hospitality and human resources industry within Whistler and is currently a part of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation team, helping to raise money to support our local community - as well as volunteering her time to many local organization fundraisers and sitting on the Board of Directors for the Whistler Children's Centre. Ashlie is the founder of 100 Women Whistler (est. May 2019) and 100 Kids Whistler (est. September 2019). You can find Ashlie with friends on the patio at Nicklaus North Golf Course after a great mountain bike session, enjoying the sunshine with a drink in her hand and a smile on her face.

Amarok Society Latest Update
Aug. 04, 2020
Dr. Tanyss Munro has devoted her life, with her husband, author Gem Munro, to improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged people across Canada and abroad. Through her work as an educator with remote Indigenous communities, as senior advisor to federal Ministers and to Regional Indigenous political organizations, she’s had the privilege of getting to really know life in communities ranging from Arctic hamlets to troubled reserves to Parliament Hill. In response to observing that new ways were needed to provide education to the poorest children on earth, Tanyss and Gem founded Amarok Society in 2006 in the slums of Bangladesh and Pakistan – with 24 schools reaching over 3,000 children and families a year. For their work, they were recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals. |
